Jeff Francis will have "exploratory" surgery on his left shoulder next week (2/25). With his pain reportedly being in the Biceps tendon, it is likely that his injury is a torn labrum - the extent of which was unable to be determined from MRI testing. We won’t know exactly what structure(s) were involved until after the surgery is performed. The best case scenario is a small tear or fraying that can be addressed with debridement. The worst case scenario would be a SLAP tear (superior labrum, anterior to posterior) or a torn rotator cuff interval. In any event, his ‘09 season is over with before it starts, and he can be ignored in all fantasy drafts.
