Joba Exits With Shoulder Injury

I was just watching the Yankees/Rangers game, and following an opposite-field base hit by Marlon Byrd in the 5th inning, Joe Girardi and the trainer rushed out of the dugout to meet Joba Chamberlain at the mound. After a brief discussion, Joba reached across his chest with his left hand and pointed to the lateral aspect of his right shoulder. This could indicate a rotator cuff strain, but we’ll have to wait for the official word. The guys on Baseball Tonight reported that he was pointing to the front of his shoulder, but it did not look that way to me.

Chamberlain had thrown 93 pitches through 4.2 innings, and was getting battered around for 8 hits - 2 of which were home runs.

UPDATE: The initial word on Joba’s injury is that he has a "stiff" right shoulder. Translation: we’ll call it stiffness until he sees a Doctor and has an MRI.

  2. I agree, it appeared that he was pointing behind the middle part of his Deltoid…posterior-lateral aspect of the shoulder, often where the rotator cuff becomes strained.
