Free Agent/Waiver Additions

Now might be the time to add Paul Konerko if you are in need of a power bat. He should return early next week from his oblique injury, and it should be noted that he is a slightly better second-half player. He was showing signs of turning things around prior to heading to the DL, having hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games.

On the pitching side of things, Josh Johnson looks close to returning to the Marlins rotation. Ahead of schedule in his return from Tommy John surgery, he has been throwing fairly well down in the minors. In his most recent start, he was able to go 8 innings without allowing a run. In 2006, he posted a 3.10 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 133 strikeouts in 157 innings. He is worth a flier in deep mixed leagues as a #5 starter, but just know that he is not out of the woods yet in his recovery (see Chris Carpenter).
